What to expect during an inspection
Inspections are a normal part of operating a licensed business. They help ensure that businesses are meeting legal requirements and operating safely.
During an inspection, officers may:
- Review licenses, permits, and required records
- Verify compliance with laws, including the three-tier system
- Check product handling and sales practices
- Verify age restrictions
- Answer questions and provide guidance
Most inspections are routine and focused on helping businesses stay compliant.
A compliance-first approach
ATCC takes a compliance-first approach to enforcement. The goal is to help businesses understand the rules and operate successfully within them.
Officers work with businesses to:
- Provide guidance on how to correct issues
- Clarify requirements and expectations
- Support ongoing compliance
If violations are identified, enforcement actions may include citations, formal investigations, or referrals to local liquor boards or administrative hearings.
When enforcement action may occur
If serious issues or repeated violations are identified, enforcement action may be taken.
This may include:
- Formal investigations
- Notices of violation
- Referrals to administrative hearings
