What suppliers and wholesalers need to know about approved carton configurations
Maryland updated its regulations to allow additional packaging configurations for wine and liquor, and this guidance outlines the newly approved carton sizes and how they apply to sales and distribution.

Who This Applies To
This guidance applies to:
- Non-resident dealer permit holders
- Wholesalers selling wine or liquor
What Changed
Maryland revised COMAR regulations to:
- Expand the list of authorized package configurations
These changes allow more flexibility in how products are packaged and sold.
Newly Authorized Configurations
The following carton configurations are now permitted:
- 4 containers of 5 liters
- 4 containers of 4 liters
- 15 containers of 1 liter
- 9 containers of 1 liter
- 15 containers of 750 milliliters
Also allowed:
- Any legal size packaged and sold as a single container
Effective Date
- These changes took effect: November 8, 2004
