What suppliers must submit when changing wholesalers for wine and distilled spirits

Maryland requires suppliers to provide at least 30 days notice when changing a wholesaler for wine or distilled spirits, and this guidance explains how to submit that notification correctly and what information must be included to avoid delays.

Notice Requirement

If you plan to change a distributor:

  • You must provide at least 30 days notice

Notification must be sent to:

  • The current wholesaler
  • The Comptroller’s Office (Regulatory & Licensing Section)

How to Submit Notification

Notification must:

  • Be submitted in writing
  • Be on company letterhead
  • Include an authorized signature

Required Information

Your notification must include:

  • Full corporate name of the non-resident dealer
  • Permit number
  • Contact name, phone number, and email
  • Full corporate name and license numbers for:
    • Outgoing wholesaler
    • Incoming wholesaler
  • All product brand names affected
